preliminary distribution data w/ no secs (only 100 data points):

vs. pauls data w/ secs:

most apparent difference is that his max is at 7, while mine is at 6. My average is currently a little higher, going to keep going until at least 1000 data points, we'll see if that changes (it will).

beta reset could be used to test this quickly at no cost, couldn't it?

I did 100 more points in beta. currently a ~6% increase from secateurs.

Also, just out of curiosity I picked 4 herbs in a normal world, then switched to beta and picked the rest 50 times and received 4+1 herbs 35 times, 4+2 herbs 12 times, and 4+3 herbs twice, and 4+4 herbs once. Way off of the expected rates. That'd suggest that to some degree at least, yields are determined when you start picking, but some factor (maybe compost? could test same thing w/o compost?) occasionally adds additional herbs to this.

when only 1 herb is picked before harvesting in beta, it returns to approx. the expected values. Interesting.

Please clarify this, I'm not quite sure what you are saying.

I made a data entry tool for herb yields:

Huh. I'll see if I can figure that out.

its the 4 I picked before importing to the beta+the number received after import in the beta so 4+1 is 5 total, 4+2 6, etc.

repeated with no compost. similar results (2+2 herbs 18 times, 2+3 6 times, 2+4 once). Will try with secateurs next.

same patch harvested 25 times w/o secateurs and 25 times with secateurs, no compost and 2 herbs harvested before switching to beta:

Not to be disheartening, but 50 data points is pretty small. You could just have not rolled for more than 8 herbs on the 4+x run. The data I've seen shows that 8+ herbs occurs somewhere ~26%

I'm looking for trends, not concrete fact. And if you feel my sample size is too small, feel free to collect data yourself. Collecting more data on it tonight anyway.

Working on it. See here. I will get more data when I can.
Also, are you using my herblog data collection script? It really helps.

100 samples takes about 50mins. I have 2 English papers due Wed. Data gathering on hold until then.

Is there any value to logging data by patch. In terms of yield deaths and seeds returned per patch? Vs Just logging a whole run. I get that it would give data per patch but would that be worthwhile getting?
